AN OVERSIZED BLOB with a melting human face has caused quite a sensation in the Kyoto Prefecture city of Yawata, The Mainichi Daily News reports. “This is the first one I’ve seen that has eyes, a mouth and a nose,” said Kiyoshi Ueda, the 61-year-old farmer who grew the tomato. The demented fruit, which tipped the scales at just over 5 ounces, is of the medium-sized “Momotaro” variety but it has grown to three times the normal size. Has it been genetically modified—by the ketchup-maker Kagome perhaps? No, Ueda says. It had simply taken in too much rainwater. Okay…so what was in the rainwater? Could it be…alien forms of life?
